South African authorities are investigating six South African airlines for allegedly conspiring to hike prices of fares for local flights during the world cup season in June. The publics’ complaints have led to the decision to investigate the airlines. Except South African Airways the other five have denied the allegations but have said they will comply with any regulations that come up.
Fewer football fans are expected to fly to South African because of unavailability of flights. Those who will be lucky to fly into the country might shuffle around the country to the various venues to watch the matches. The 2010 coordinating unit has asked the completion commission to investigate and resolve the matter as soon as they can to avoid it posing any difficulties to fans and tourists who will be arriving in the country.
