Many pan-Africanists are agog with excitement at the news that the ruling ZANU-PF government of Robert Mugabe and opposition MDC are finally talking! The move seems to have vindicated Mugabe’s stance that only Zimbabweans can solve their own problems. We can only wish them well, as they attempt to solve the country’s astonishing economic crisis that has recorded the worst inflation in any country’s history. A power sharing deal may be imminent, but would it be a precedent on the continent now?-steal elections, kill opponents and when the tension subsides, offer to share power.
