Egypt Expects U.S. Support in Economic Issues

Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr said on 2/3/2013 during a joint press conference with his US counterpart John Kerry, during a Cairo visit, that Egyptian-US relations based on equality and mutual respect between the two countries.

Amr added that Egypt expects economic support from friends in general and the US in particular. He said relations between the two countries are strategic and multifaceted and reflect on the Middle East region as a whole.

Amr added that he discussed with Kerry a number of issues concerning the Middle East such as the situation in Syria, the Palestinian cause, rendering the Middle East a region free from nuclear weapons of mass destruction.

Also, Kerry said that he was visiting Egypt on be half of President Barack Obama as a friend of Egypt and not a friend of a certain group or persons. He said peaceful demonstrations and political participation are a must for building democracy in Egypt.

He said he will discuss with President Mohamed Morsi means of extending economic assistance to Egypt through supporting free and small size enterprises, developing Egypt's exports to the United States and investment in Egypt's youth through education.
