Congress for Democratic Change embattled National Chairperson, Senator Geraldine Doe-Sherif; Vice National Chairman for Administration Budu Wilson; National Chaplain General; and Madam Louise Karmorh and Director for Press and Public Relations, Amos Swaray made the ultimate sacrifice Sunday in Monrovia when they resigned their respective offices in the party.
The CDC officials, who took the decision through a joint press statement read by Senator Doe-Sherif, said they served the 'most grass rooted party' with their might and spirit to promote the institution among Liberians and subsequently to capture the presidency.
"All through our history, we served with all our body, mind, soul and will still do until we achieve our goal for a prosperous Liberia through the CDC; it is with sincerity and commitment that we got to know several compatriots in the CDC, but as we observe the current unfolding in our party; our precious party; the party that we love; the party that we cherish; the party that we are willing to sacrifice anything for, it brings only one question to our mind. Is there a leader that will keep fighting for authority until he destroys what he created?" the statement read.
The tough-spoken Doe-Sherif continued, "Look around you, read the dailies, listen to the radios, go on the internet, what do you read, what do you hear, what do you see? CDC, CDC, CDC is fighting not against opposition, but herself. The question now is what do we as a party that is considered by many Liberians and friends in the Diaspora as the true reconciler. The only answer is we should first reconcile ourselves."
She and the three other officials were reportedly expelled from the CDC for alleged betrayal just after the runoff presidential election last November. Despite the party's pronouncement, Madam Doe-Sherif insisted that she was still the national chair and got the blessing of the National Elections Commission, pending a national convention.
The internal strife seemed to have rocked the CDC to its foundation so much so that it could not get its acts together to nominate a candidate on time to the NEC for the pending Montserrado County District #11 by-election on July 3, 2012. She emphasized that the way forward is reconciliation, and the party must not be troubled because of personal ego among its ranks and file.
"Yes we might have the capacity, both politically and financially to fight for control; we honestly think this is not the way forward for our party because we must be the change we want to see in Liberia", the statement added.
However, the party Secretary General Acarous Gray said there has been no official letter on the pronounced resignation of the three four executive committee members, but thought it was time to reconsider their expulsion from the CDC.
